Where children used to play

In the aftermath of the tsunami disaster

Early morning
on Boxing day
Where people laugh
and children play.

On Boxing day
the weather nice
Where children play
on an island paradise.

The weather nice
the water cool
Where children play
by the pool.

The water cool
the sea so calm
Where children play
from dusk 'till dawn.

The sea so calm
where sunbathers lay
The sand so soft
where children play.

The sand so soft
the sky so blue
Where children play
the danger grew.

Where children play
not one word.
Nobody saw
nobody heard.

It happened so suddenly
they were caught unaware
Where children play
without a care.

They were unaware
full of courage and pluck
Where children play
the first wave struck.

Where children play
they couldn't see
The devastating force
of the tsunami.

The devastating force
took them away
Shattering lives
where children play.

Shattering lives, hopes, and dreams
waves pounding upon the shore
Where children used to play
but not anymore.

A once earthly paradise
destroyed in a day
Where people used to laugh
and children used to play.

Where people used to laugh
a shattering silence lay
The boats are now broken
no children left to play.

They couldn't even imagine
or simply didn't know
Where children used to play
the dead are stacked row upon row.

Where children used to play
and lots of mangos grow
Dead people now lay
row upon row.

Where lots of mangos grow
people will be missed
Where children used to play
and lovers used to kiss.

Where children used to play
and lovers used to dance
Wave upon wave of destruction
they never stood a chance.

Wave upon wave of destruction
how can we possibly cope?
Where our children used to play
that is our only hope.

In the darkness of this tragedy
or in the light of day
There is always hope
Where the children play.

Once the dead are buried
in their proper rite
The children will start to play again
in quite a normal sight.

Once the dead are buried
and we take the time to mourn
Once the children play again
A new day will be reborn.

If there's any hope right now
it's among the young
The children who used to play
are the real heroes unsung.

We will continue to carry on
and here is how and when
Seeing children upon the shore
watching them play again.

We will continue to carry on
and here is how and why
Seeing the children play again
in this we must rely.

In this our darkest hour
seeing children once again at play
This is how we will carry on
with our children leading the way.
