Position: Teacher for mixed age early childhood programmes

Tawan Sprouts is the social enterprise initiative of Borderless360, the latter of which works with empowering refugees through inclusive and holistic education.

Borderless360 is a charitable foundation in Thailand. We currently support youth and adult refugees who have experienced disrupted learning due to their flight and asylum situation to obtain basic language and/ or high school certification to build greater self-reliance. In addition to these academic classes, our students attend art sessions with anthroposophical art therapists and we organise meet-ups where we try to incorporate some elements of anthroposophical pedagogical and therapeutic approaches to support other aspects of their challenging life journeys.

Tawan Sprouts came into being because we are deeply inspired by Steiner’s original impulse to start the first Waldorf school – a pedagogy that has the potential to not only deliver “healing education” but the healing of humanity.

Tawan (which means sunrise in Thai) Sprouts was born out of a vision and dream to address some of the root causes of forced displacement through co-creating communities of care by intentionally reserving spaces for marginalised children who can learn and play alongside other children. In doing so, we hope to expand opportunities for social cohesion and access to good quality, holistic and conscious education that could help “level the playing field” for the future. This is because we strongly believe in the curative potential of the Waldorf pedagogy and how it can support us in our harried world. Profits from this initiative also go back to funding our other refugee education programmes.

We are currently in our first phase of operations in which we are trying to develop a stable fee-paying student population and community. Our small Waldorf-inspired Centre is located in the heart of busy Bangkok and offer early childhood daycare/ nursery; afterschool and an array of nourishment programmes for little ones and adults based on the Steiner-Waldorf approach.

We are in search of a very special person who is aligned with Steiner’s teachings but who approaches it with the curiosity and interest to adapt to the realities of the local environment and the needs of the community; and has the openness and flexibility to explore and work with unchartered territories. We value experience with the Waldorf curriculum, but we are more interested in finding someone who is a good fit for our culture, someone who is driven and who shares our vision and mission for a better world.

Requirements:
- Fluent in English. Someone who is effectively bi-lingual is preferred.
- Early Childhood Waldorf training or experience preferred, or a passion for conscious education and a willingness to be mentored or to complete Waldorf teacher certification.
- Enthusiasm, energy, commitment and flexibility to flow as we are a start-up initiative in its infancy.
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
- Passion, openness to work in a multi-cultural environment and with diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to challenge norms, someone who is both progressive and adaptable, with an interest to evolve the Waldorf curriculum to meet the needs of the 21st century.
- Has strong creative energy, is passionate to work with children and is able to inspire students.
