Let's not kid ourselves

Postbox letter from Anonymous

The bottom line is that Thailand does not adhere to non-discriminatory hiring practices: height, age, attractiveness, overall appearance, and especially skin tone are typically and explicitly considered for any job that requires working with the public

Racism in job ads

Postbox letter from Sar C. Astic

This letter is for employers who post their job ads here on Ajarn.com. I hope that you will consider "some" non-native English speakers. Changing "NES only" to "NES preferred" can make the ad more sensitive to NNES like me.

Nothing but misinformation

Postbox letter from Mr T

An opportunity in the offing

Two enterprising Filipinos have set up a new chess and language center

Two Filipino English educators have decided to work as a partnership, pool their resources, and set up Gainsfield Chess and Language Center in the heart of Nonthaburi

The all important interview itself

How to perform well on the day

Interviews in Thailand seem to range from a Thai person simply checking to see if you have the right “look,” to more in-depth conversations between the candidate and one or two people responsible for hiring. I personally rarely spend less than an hour with a candidate for a job at my school, and often far longer.

Where are all the teachers?

Is there a severe shortage of warm TEFL bodies?

Is there really a chronic teacher shortage in Thailand? As 40,000 baht a month jobs go begging, Ajarn.com asked ten teacher recruiters their opinions on why there seems to be an acute shortage of quality teachers at present. Is it really a case of accepting the first farang that sticks his or her head around the door? No individual people or specific schools are mentioned.
