An overview of teaching in Thailand
I thought this might be of benefit to new ajarn readers in particular
I was asked to fill in a questionnaire by my old university on the topic of teaching English in Thailand. Although it was intended to encourage applicants to take a Thai study program in Germany, the information might be useful for those teachers thinking of coming to work here in Thailand.
Welcome to Bang Sue
Life on the outskirts of Bangkok
“You live where??” I usually receive looks of concern from my students when I tell them that I live in the neighborhood of Bang Sue, about an hour away from our school. From my friends, I receive childish giggles. Yes, I get it. Ha Ha. Many people wonder why I would live so far away from my job and my friends.
Renting apartments and condos in Bangkok
It's all about deposits
Every year Thailand, and of course Bangkok, become an increasingly popular and attractive place to emigrate to for the first time expat. Attractions include the relaxed way of life, the access to international fare - particularly if you live along the BTS or MRT system in Bangkok and of course the delicious and healthy local food.
Wet, wet, wet
Going door to door and staying dry!
We can at least attempt to escape a number of those rainy season downpours by living as close to the BTS and MRT stations as possible, and in fact some of the condominium developers in Bangkok have gone one stage further and actually linked their buildings to a station
Movie madness
Property choices for movie buffs
If you are interested in living on Sukhumvit like many expats, then there are three main cinema complexes, all with multi-screens and English language films showing every day.
The plus points and the downsides
The advantages and disadvantages of different types of Bangkok properties
The best way to choose which type of property is suitable for you is to decide which one is best for your own lifestyle and needs. Whatever type of property you are considering, whether it be an apartment, a condominium a townhouse or a detached house there will be many factors that need consideration.
Book review
The essential guide to teaching English and living in Thailand
As they neared the end of their first year in Thailand, Michael and Sarah suddenly realized that while chatting with new arrivals, they were answering the same questions over and over again. So they began to compile a guide to help others who might want to give TEFL in Thailand a try.
How a foreigner can buy real estate in Thailand
Yes indeed, foreigners can certainly invest in the Thai property market
Foreigners have been buying real estate in Thailand regularly for the last three decades and more and more invest in Thai real estate each year. This would not be possible if foreigners were being consistently ‘cheated' out of their money by the laws of the land.
Neighborhood watch
How do Bangkok neighborhoods differ?
I've been thinking about the five different neighborhoods I have lived in during my twenty-odd years in Bangkok. Which ones did I enjoy? Were there any neighborhoods that I particularly hated? What were the advantages and disadvantages of each community that I spent time in? Perhaps it would be interesting to draw some comparisons.
Is now the time to buy Bangkok real estate?
Why not convert those rental payments into a property investment?
Bangkok could now be a good place for you to invest in property. The main reasons for this are two-fold: Bangkok's two major public transport systems are at last being developed with more professionalism and enthusiasm than ever before, and we are drawing closer to 2015 each and every day!
