Are you a social butterfly travelling alone?
Embrace the opportunities that solo travel presents
Some people are completely happy with their own company, so doing things alone isn't even a worthy topic of conversation for them. I aspire to be one of those people. But right now, I'm someone who enjoys the company of others - especially while traveling.
The state of the state railway
It's a shame that such a great mode of transportation isn't in better hands
By the time we rolled into Hualamphong Station (a wonderful station, for the record) two hours late we were so happy that we kind of forgot about the sleepless night and just laughed about it. And that's what I'm doing now, writing semi-seriously about some minor issues on a train in a developing country.
Phuket: it's paradise on earth
You guys who live there don't know how lucky you are
There are beautiful beaches, marinas, rivers, mountains, temples, and wildlife galore to see and enjoy. I would say Phuket has a little bit of everything for people of all tastes. Sure, it has its pitfalls, and it may be a bit more expensive than Bangkok, but to me... Phuket is worth every penny.

A selection of interesting Thailand-related articles and blogs
Hello all, Peter Clarke here, and I'm back again with a selection of links to interesting Thailand-related blogs and articles that I've found on the internet over the last couple of months.
Beyond Hua Hin
A trip to Khao Takiap
I'm not going to lie and say it's the most awesome place you can go, but as a relatively no-hassle trip to and from Bangkok over a weekend (I usually try to stay two nights to make the trip worth it), it's hard to beat.
Why had no one told me about Chantaburi?
It's clean and it's green. Please don't miss it.
The only time I'd ever been to Chantaburi Province was over twenty years ago, when an Indian friend (a gemstone dealer by profession) took me down there to see one of the famous open-air gemstone markets. And although it was an interesting experience at the time, walking around on a muddy scrap of land, gawping at gemstone stalls, was still the only image that came to mind whenever Chantaburi was mentioned to me - until last weekend of course, when I came away with a completely different point of view.
Living the high life
A mini-break in Khao Yai with money no object. Yeah, right.
I promised myself a no-expense-spared holiday in Khao Yai National Park. Money was to be no object. But then you remember your working class roots.
A brief adventure in Kanchanburi
A welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok
Getting out of the major cities and certain tourist areas (Samui, Pattaya, etc.) allows you to rediscover the Thai capacity for extraordinary kindness and generosity
In love with Li Pe
It's difficult to avoid the cliches when describing such a gorgeous island
In terms of beauty, Koh Li Pe outstrips the other islands we have visited. The turquoise seas are breathtaking and sublime for swimming and snorkelling. My standout memory will be the purple-magenta skies as Li Pe descended into darkness
On Bangkok
Falling in love again with this unique city
Bangkok is left to its own devices. The planning is horrible so the city is left to grow naturally. It is ugly, sprawled, and terrifying to drive in, but it is also so human.
