Renting apartments and condos in Bangkok

It's all about deposits

Every year Thailand, and of course Bangkok, become an increasingly popular and attractive place to emigrate to for the first time expat. Attractions include the relaxed way of life, the access to international fare - particularly if you live along the BTS or MRT system in Bangkok and of course the delicious and healthy local food.

Thai dilemmas

Here's the full list

I guess they are just observations on life as a foreigner in Thailand. They've given some people a laugh and many folks seem to have identified with a few of them. It's all just a bit of fun.

Coming back home

Can second time around ever be as good as the first?

Returning to live in Thailand is quite different from coming to live here for the first time. Instead of everything one encounters seeming exotic, one mostly senses the familiar.

Book review

The essential guide to teaching English and living in Thailand

As they neared the end of their first year in Thailand, Michael and Sarah suddenly realized that while chatting with new arrivals, they were answering the same questions over and over again. So they began to compile a guide to help others who might want to give TEFL in Thailand a try.

Thailand vs Korea

Which country offers more for the English teacher?

Living and teaching in both laid back Thailand and fast paced South Korea has made for an interesting perspective on life in Asia. The two extremes are hard to compare but I think I should at least try.

Getting hitched in the Land of Smiles

Continuing the adventure but as a married teacher

Hi, I am Elizabeth (Miss Ellie if you are one of my 5 year old students) and I am a homeroom teacher at an International school in Nonthaburi. I moved here from South Korea where I lived and taught for a year

Poverty reduction in Asia

How poor countries benefit from foreign investment

Working in China (but maintaining a residence in Thailand) I could write volumes about what I think is “wrong” in China, but I also know that the country has implemented the biggest and fastest poverty reduction program the world has ever seen, and it has been done by going against the advice of most western economic experts and without foreign aid.

The city is theirs!

Thailand - the home of all things that bite, sting, crawl, creep or scurry.

There are many dangers awaiting the new arrival in Thailand, but never underestimate what might be under the roof or under the floorboards.

One year later

Thoughts from a first time teacher on living and working in Thailand

The end of the term has made me very contemplative. A year ago I was in a very different situation than I am now; I was jobless and overwhelmed with debt and I was very confused about how to lift myself up from that desperate situation and pursue my dream of living abroad.

What keeps us in Thailand?

Postbox letter from Keith Evans

I've been teaching in Thailand for seven years. Like most of my fellow foreign teachers here I've been through the visa and work permit mangle and all the other bureaucratic crap that the Thai Government can throw at a human being, but here I remain.
